Who are Superfast South Yorkshire?

Superfast South Yorkshire is a partnership of the Local Authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. It was established to deliver faster broadband to areas where it had not been commercially viable to for the private sector to invest in building infrastructure.

The first phase of our roll-out was delivered in partnership with Openreach and completed in September 2019. Phase 1 saw almost £27m of funding invested to reach an additional 95,000 premises across South Yorkshire. The second phase has brought gigabit capable broadband on the Openreach network to an additional 5,000 premises to date, and is reaching completion.

As of March 2024, the South Yorkshire region has 99.1% superfast and 86.67% gigabit-capable broadband availability.

Superfast South Yorkshire are working to support BDUK to deliver Project Gigabit across South Yorkshire on behalf of the local authorities.
